Student Camp
July 25-29, 2010 -- Kansas City, MO -- Cost: $575 ($395 if no lodging required)
Students will begin Camp activities at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and will wrap up that Thursday. If flying in, you may arrive anytime on Sunday. We prefer you depart after 4 p.m. on Thursday, when Camp officially concludes. (If you need to stay an extra night, there will be an additional $70 fee.)
- Housing: Campers will stay in a hotel in the Kansas City area. The entire camp staff with stay with the students, providing around-the-clock adult chaperones.
- Transportation: The Camp activities take place at Lee's Summit West High School. All transportation during Camp is provided. We will provide transportation to and from the Kansas City Airport (MCI) and to all camp functions.
- Equipment: We provide Apple computers with Final Cut Pro software. We expect campers to bring a digital camera, microphone, at least one blank tape, a tripod (optional, but recommended), plus your batteries and charger. If you can not bring these items, we'll provide them for you, but it is always an advantage to work with the cameras you'll be using at your school. You are welcome to bring a laptop with editing software if you do not use Final Cut Pro.
- Camp staff: Karrie Smythia, broadcast adviser at Lee's Summit West High School, will be the director of the student camp. She will have a staff of broadcast teachers, plus professionals from the KC area who will provide outstanding sessions about all aspects of broadcasting. Smythia has had three students chosen as STN's "Student of the Year," and her program has been nationally-recognized for years. She has also been part of the Camp STN staff since 2004.
- What's included: Camp tuition includes housing, breakfast and lunch, camp materials and activities, transportation in the city to all camp functions, and a tape of the camp show, including video segments used during presentations.
You may guarantee your place in camp by registering online and paying a $200.00 deposit, which is not refundable after May 1. All payments are due in full 10 days before your camp begins. The first 35 to register and provide the deposit will have their spots reserved. Please note that registering online alone does not guarantee your spot. You must submit the deposit or full payment to ensure your place at Camp.
